Trust and correction policy
A clear intake boundary for Paper Watch, followed by six operating commitments for every full public docket.

A Paper Watch entry records primary-source metadata, the attributed claim, why it may matter, and a proposed examination route. “Candidate,” “watch,” and “docket-ready” are intake dispositions—not mathematical findings. Completed work appears only in a separate proof docket with its scope and evidence.

State of Proof is currently operated and funded by Material Shift. Any future sponsored examination will be disclosed on its docket. Payment may fund work; it will never determine a status or finding.
Findings apply only to the named claim, source version, assumptions, and review route.
A status on Lemma 4.2 for v3 says nothing about v4, about other lemmas, or about the prose around them. Every status names its scope.
Source preservation, corrections, and previous versions remain visible.
The original source URL, retrieval record, and locked hash remain visible. Public archive links are additive and say whether their bytes were hash-compared. A material correction becomes a new State Change; it does not silently replace the prior record.
Author responses are welcomed and preserved.
Each docket states only the public contact state on record; it does not imply outreach. A published response identifies its receipt date, addressed evidence, attribution, and publication consent. Any privacy, safety, or formatting edit is disclosed; substantive edits require the respondent’s approval.
Formal verification does not automatically establish correspondence with the public claim.
A machine-checked statement supports only the encoded endpoint under its definitions and dependencies. Whether it faithfully renders the manuscript’s public claim is a separate examination step.
An unresolved Open Step is an honest outcome.
“Inconclusive” and “Human review required” are publishable end states. A missing verdict is not a failure of the record; a manufactured one would be.
Website analytics and your privacy
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand aggregate visits, page views, referring sites and page performance. Your browser sends these measurements to Cloudflare. This service does not use analytics cookies or track you across websites.
Our analytics runs only on the public website, not local or preview versions. We do not load it when your browser signals Global Privacy Control. Browser privacy tools can also block it, so traffic totals are estimates—not a count of identifiable people.
Statuses describe evidence collected for a defined scope. They are not peer-review decisions, publication recommendations, or certificates of mathematical truth.
